BEHIND THE CAMERA

DEFINED BY
CULTURE
Dyllon looks to his heritage to help define his voice. His moʻo kūʻauhau can be traced back to Waipiʻo Valley. He often visits his ohana's long standing papa loʻi and considers it one of his greatest inspirations. As a creator Dyllon aspires to reflect culture in his artwork. As an indigenous filmmaker at the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa he hopes to further the wave of Native Hawaiian story telling.
Dyllon Ching hails from Moku o Keawe, known commonly as the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. As a kid he was drawn to photography, frequently he would fill up a disposable camera of random images within a single day. Yet it wasn't until high-school that he fell in love with photography and film as an art-form. Growing up in the small town of Waimea he would find his style reflecting the beautiful warm colors and soft lighting of the golden Kohala coast.
